Have you ever wanted to learn more about what is really going on in a novel? This course aims to help you become a better, more critical reader and enhance your enjoyment of reading. It is suitable for everyone from occasional readers, right through to bookworms.
You will be guided through popular and accessible literary classics, learning about the story behind the novel, the social history of the time and some of the author’s biographical details. You will learn about character, plot setting, point of view, symbolism, themes, structure and style, as well as each novel’s critical reception and impact. Classes take place in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
However classes are structured to enhance your learning experience. You will meet some fascinating literary characters in the novels and you will enjoy the company of fellow readers within the group. The set texts for September 2019 are:
