Art History With a Difference

Introduction

Every colour carries a story. We live in a kaleidoscope. Learn about our favourite colours and how they bring meaning to our lives, not only through paintings but our culture and language. Why are ‘red carpets’ used for celebrity events today? How is the beetle connected to “red tape”? Why are people described as feeling blue? Why does white represent purity?

These and other fascinating facts about colour will be explored. This short course explores the history/ science and origin of pigments places and people. It is a visual journey using paintings and practices that guarantees you will never see colour in the same way again.

No materials required. The course will be delivered by Siobhan Campbell. Siobhan has successfully delivered the popular Calligraphy night course at BFEI for a number of years.
