Learn to sew - Make a skirt is for complete beginners (Tuesdays)

Learn to sew - Make a dress is for those with a little knowledge (Wednesdays)

Both courses are 6 Weeks and places are limited to 8 people per course

 

Learn to sew - Make a skirt (Tuesdays)

Over 6 consecutive weeks jump right into making an A-Line skirt, complete with invisible zip and lining. 

Class led by Richelle Corcoran, an industry trained TV/Film costume maker. 

For learning purposes everyone will make the same style skirt with a commercial pattern I will provide. 

TOPICS COVERED 

  • Reading a pattern 
  • Understanding different fabrics and why we choose different fabrics according to garment styles and skill level. 
  • Tracing the pattern 
  • Laying fabric correctly, grain lines, selvedge, warp & weft. 
  • Laying the pattern correctly 
  • Marking and cutting 
  • Assembly of a toile 
  • Tailoring the toile 
  • Making those adjustments to the pattern 
  • Starting the final garment 

 

You will be provided with machines and all equipment. You will need to provide your own fabric – 2.5 meters of cotton or cotton-mix stable fabrics. No stretch, leathers or silks.

NOTE – Please bear in mind that individuals learn at different paces, although we endeavour to get the final garment finished in class, some self-directed work might need to be done at home in order to fully complete the final garment.

 

Learn to sew - Make a dress (Wednesdays)

Over 6 weeks (there will be a 2-week break in the middle) jump straight into making a fitted shift dress, complete with lining and invisible zip.

For learning purposes everyone will make the same style dress with a commercial pattern which I will provide.
